Why are some fast and strong guys like Floyd Jr and Muhammad Ali not explosive?

Thats a good question I have thought of the same thing before. And Ali and Floyd jr are good exsamples of boxers who's punches seem to be moving fast yet are not huge power punchers. All I can think of to exsplain this is that a puncher like Ali developes a lot of speed on his punch early through the first three quartes or so of the punch and then the speed max's out. And the punch gets from point A to B faster then a boxer like Forman. While Formans punches may be slower through the first three quarters of the punch they may be moving faster at the point of impact. Like others have mentioned some punches do not yeild at impact while others may yeild somewhat the fist, wrist, elbow, shoulder, back, hips, knees, ankles, feet all can yeild to the impact a little bit and end up absorbing some of the force of the blow.

Floyd doesn't sit on his punches most of the time. When he throws it hard, it lands pretty solid. Check the Hatton fight, that is a true one punch KO.

One of Floyd Jr's sparring partners claimed Floyd puts A LOT of snap behind his punches

I think Mayweather and Ali can punch hard no doubt about it. I said they are not huge power punchers. I thought you asked why Maywether does not hit that hard? I don't think Ali or Mayweather are great punchers I think there have been lots of guys who hit harder.

Floyd's fast and gets he alot out of his punches but does not natural huge punching power, if that makes sense.

If we agree when it comes to the difference between explsoive and heavy punching can we also say that one of the styles is better than the other?
