The dude had 81 wins at the time. You don't know very much about boxing in that era do you? Carpentier was fighting 15-20 times a year when he took most of those losses. When you fight that often you're going to lose a few here and there.

Les Darcy never had a fight outside Australia. His world title was only at middleweight. All of his weight jumping fights above that were for Australian titles, which as everyone knows have very low prestige and legitimacy.
Look Poet has answered you I dont need to barge in but Still...let me make a point to you...Carpentier's career stands at 109-88-14 with 6 no contests. he fought often and sometimes multiple times each year, when you fight the best you will lose some...

Dont agree, lets take Wlad...I doubt many will dispute the fact that he is the best heavy today...why? he has fought the best competition and beaten the best...he has already lost 3 times in 60 59 fights...So when you fight the best you lose also sometimes to the best...

Will you call Mike Tyson a bum? Well his winning percentage is almost similar to Carpentier...

Tyson's losses all came in the second third of his career. Carpentier lost by KO and TKO six times against non-world class fighters in his native France even before he fought Dempsey. Then after he fought Dempsey he lost 4 or 5 times more but to world class fighters like Tunney, Gibbons, and Loughran.

Oh and by the way, do a little research about the Australian scene at that time. The competition was intense, virtually every great fighter fought in Australia Mr. Sting Rabid, between 1908 and 1916. Are you saying Jimmy Clabby, Eddie McGoorty, George Chip, Sam Langford were nobodies, Why did Eddie McGoorty want to win the Australian HW title for. The money, the crowds, the status was better than in the U.S...///... The MW scene in the US and the so called champion Al McCoy had stagnated the MW title. McCoy had brought the tjtle into disrepute, he avoided Darcy at every step. McCoy fought near 20 bouts in his so-called reign, but none were tjtle defences AND He was Trounced in half of them....... As I said mate,... don't try to match wits with me..... you need some real facts if you are gonna trash the greatest boxer to ever come out of Australia........... Look up the name Hugh D. McIntosh, and look at the fights he promoted,................................ You should tread a bit more lightly,.... who's your favorite fighter,.... Huh !!!

Willie Meehan, in his corpulent glory, must be considered amongst the great weight-jumpers in history.

Mickey Walker and Kid Lewis as well.

I'll have to check Meehan out, I don' know what weight he started at, he fought Dempsey a few times but I don't know a lot about him.
