No doubt that Witherspoon doesn't rank very highly in lists but he was a very very good boxer with a big punch and a style that was poison to Holmes, he had all the requirements but still didn't knock him out.

Holmes has a big chin, heart and good recuperative abilities, no doubt that in Dempsey's days before the Neutral corner rule came in and the mandatory 8 count then Dempsey would have probably took him out if he could catch him with a few good punches but these days he has less of a chance.

Give credit where it's due Sugar, Dempsey was a better boxer and was so much better at finishing his opponent then Shavers was, if Dempsey could get Holmes on weak legs like Snipes and Shavers did then chances are he would of ended it.

Christo I am noy saying Dempsey will KO Holmes. What I am saying is that its ignorant to suppose he can't. He could KO Holmes if he did get him. By the way how good was Snipes against whom Holmes stagerred to the ropes? How experienced was he? By the logic some guys use here I can say, what Snipes did Jack could do. Its not that Witherspoon only hurt Holmes. He was hurt quite often, and which great finisher he faced? The only great finisher he did (way out of his prime sure) KOd him out. I will wager if Holmes was in with a better finisher than Snipes, Witherspoon or Weaver he will be in lala land.

Witherspoon style was not suited to Holmes neither will be Dempsey's stylle, whome Tyson modelled himself on. Dempsey very quick of foot and was no Shavers sorry. Jack could very well clear Holmes who did not have Ali's chin or reflexes. Jack had everything to trouble Holmes and vice versa. I don't see it as a walkover. And unlike some guys I see him doing what great boxers liek Weaver, Snipes, Witherspoon couldnot.

Sure the demotivared Norton or supremeely experienced Snipes are world class victims too.

            ^^ Read my other post

I said Dempsey was a much better finisher then Shavers and Snipes, if he had his man hurt like they did he would end it instead of allowing him to hold on and recuperate.

I got caught in a mood and laid in on thick on purpose. I'll behave myself now though. Excuse me, I have to go throw up again, I think. I'm weathering a light hangover. Ignore everything I say this morning, gents. It's not me talking, it's the nausea and headache.

Actually, I might come around later and casually snipe back and forth with 1942. But I won't take any responsibility for that.

I read that.I am not in disagreement with you much. But I do believe what Snipes could Dempsey could too. And even today Dempsey could beat Holmes and vice versa. I have trouble visioning Holmes surviving Tyson even at his peak or Dempsey. Could he pull it off? Sure he could? Could he get KO'd sure he could too, when you are facing ATG top 20 punchers you sure can.But i won't bet on either happenning.

i agree that Tyson may well have beaten any version of Holmes... Holmes said in the ring after being beaten by Tyson, "i could never have beaten Mike Tyson"... Yes i know Tyson made similar remarks, but Mike was very humble back in those days and i believe Holmes genuinely believed what he said.
