  • A question about Billy Fox.

How many fix fights did he benefit from?

Jake Lamotta admitted he threw that fight to get a title shot. Ossie Harris manager said that Ossie threw that fight due to the mob threatening them.

Was there anymore fights that would be su****ious in Fox career?

Fox was managed by Carbo and lets say Fox was "well matched". By Fox's own admission he often fought the same guy who used different names.
Also before he fought Lesnevich the 1st time he had knocked out every fighter, some 40 or so, he fought. Considering La Motta said he couldn't have dented a youghurt pot with his punches does seem very dubious.

The LaMotta and Harris fights are the obvious cases but there are other occasions where the opponents were known divetakers or tomato cans, although those were less so "fixed" than Fox simply fighting overmatched opposition who shouldn't have been there in the ring with him.

Billy Fox himself said that he did not know about his fights being fixed until realizing that his vaunted power had no effect on LaMotta who was letting Fox hit him at will. He said he completely lost his confidence from that point onwards, and the "mob" must have lost their faith in him too. He barely won a fight.

        Thanks

From everything I have gathered his whole career could have been a sham. With Lamotta and Harris being the obvious ones like TheGreatA said.

You can't take the Artie Levine win from him. Real KO against a real opponent. Levine nearly KOed a prime SRR. Says it all.

I've heard that Fox looks decent on film against Lesnevich (the first, not the second fight) although I've never seen the fight myself. He couldn't have been a complete joke of a fighter, but his record certainly flatters him.

I've read that the mob lost a lot of money betting on Fox to beat Lesnevich so they must have thought he was a live body they wern't the sort of people to bet out of sentiment.
That said Lesnevich (who I was never a big fan of) was slipping after the war.
