  • Tyson - Holyfield 1

One of the greatest matches in boxing history. Holyfield was coming up from underneath with his head as early as 10 seconds into the opening bell. Why was he not warned or reprimanded for using his head as a weapon in this fight?

Is there another fight where so much headbashing occurs?

Some good candidates are Hopkins fights, but I haven't seen the fight you mentioned.

Joe was somewhat of a clone of Henry Armstrong. He got inside and kept his head down and threw looping left hooks and short stiff rights to the body.

Evander is not a Frazier/Armstrong type fighter where he gets in close and stays. When he did get close, he puts his head down, and flicks it up at another fighter. I've never seen Frazier do this repeatedly in a fight. It's clear that it was a tactic he used to hurt his opponent unfairly.

Warnings depend on the referee used and some are better than others. Which referee was it?

I never thought Holyfield used his head deliberately.
Ive asked people to point out in which rounds he did, but ive never seen deliberate head butting apart from when Tyson did it to Holyfield when he got frustrated.

Plus it pissed me off Tyson had the balls to moan in both fights about holyfields head when Tyson was infamous for using elbows even in his prime.

Are tyson nuthuggers still trying to put down their heros ass whooping down to holyfields headbutts? like The Noose said tyson had no right to cry and complain about others fouling when he was as bad as anyone when it came to breaking the rules.

Good point. Holyfield was wisely taught to come in low while infighting and obviously you keep your head/chin down. Tysons aggression and lunging at that point of his career was as much to blame as anything Holyfield did. Tyson used the head butt as an excuse for bitting Holyfields ear off. And many people bought into it. I watched Tyson's career from the begining(and Kevin Rooney's for that matter) and even though I enjoyed Tyson's prime his tatics make Holyfield seem like Mother Teresa.

Hopkins-Jones II, Hopkins literally charged headfirst into Roy's chin the whole night.

Kind of like how Bradley uses his head, where he is going to stay low and occupy that space, and if you keep your head there you are risking that bald dome hitting you.
