This has to be a joke. This has to be just someone trying to piss me off so I get banned. I thought this was a boxing forum, now someone is trying to argue that if a ref calls a fight because the guy is stopped on the ground its not as good as a guy not answering the 10 count. That if a fighter refuses to get up, its not as good as if a fighter simply just lays there and waits till 10. That knocking a guy down repeatedly isnt good.

This guy, this guy here, he loves Jack Johnson, the king of wrestling, dude threw like 5 punches a round, but then he criticizes Briggs for swarming?

We get it, you like the old timers...but no need to try to argue KO's to TKO's. Ali in 61 fights had 11 KO's total. wow, and hes the greatest? Sounds like a pretty weak puncher to me. Especially when you take that only 3 kos came against guys who would be HW's today.

Oh and the only guy Ali ever KO'ed in the first 2 rounds over 181 lbs...was Sonny Liston......yep that was real.........

See I can play the KO vs TKO game too. So clearly by looking at Ali's record he was a total featherfist.

Briggs also knocks out actual heavies while Shavers best KO's were against Young and Ellis, Young when he had only 7 wins and weighed under 200 lbs, and a 7 loss Ellis who also weighed under 200 lbs. A 200 lbs Young would eventually draw shavers later on when he was more seasoned. Shavers also was a victim of early brutal Ko's unlike Briggs. I dont count the KO over Norton who was completely shot at that time, but I guess you can count that as his best KO.

I know people will argue this, but Shavers for example, in the middle of his career fought guys with records of 1-29...wow...and people say Brigg's competition has been bad, at least theyve been over .500 and not 28 fights below it.
Briggs couldn't even budge Foreman. You can bet Shavers would have.

also, I would probably put Shavers and Briggs on the same level, but in terms of punching power I'd go with Shavers.

Many accounts said the man hit harder than a 230 lb Foreman.

haha shavers couldnt budge 20-25, 209 lbs, Bob stallings and lost to him. Sorry, youre trying to compare shavers, who lost by UD to a guy with a losing record to Briggs and saying Briggs couldnt knock down Foreman...ok....

I mean sure Stallings was entire his prime where he actually won a few consecutive fights, but before fighting Shavers, he was coming off of a streak of 10 consecutive losses and 16 losses in 17 fights...and he beat Shavers.

You arent a great fighter if you get UD'ed by a guy with a losing record. Both at the time and in their career.

Again the problem with this era is Ali struggled with bad fighters, so those bad fighters are then lifted up to the highest heights. Shavers wasnt good.

I mean at least you arent trying to argue that TKO's are less than KO's... when guys get TKO'ed in the first 17 seconds of a fight.

BUT...at least you ahve them even, sorry abotu my tone some time, im really not a troll. However, all the accusations and posters who go into my threads and make vicious allegations set me off a little on actual posters who want to dsicuss things.I just think older fighters are deified and overrated. Mainly from the 70's. Shavers was not a great fighter, nowhere close. I dont think Briggs is a great fighter either, but Briggs has a better resume then Shavers when Ali fought him. I do think itd probably be who landed first, but I dont think anyone can be like, "Briggs is a joke, Shavers clearly hit harder."

Good arguments...lots of info there. Shavers got beat by a guy with a losing record while in his prime. Shavers clearly was a joke.
