It's usually Euros that hate on him.

The fact is that he missed a lot of good fighters for whatever reason. Most of them foreign: prime Calzaghe Benn, Eubank, McClellan, Collins, Watson, Jackson, Nunn, Liles, Dariusz, prime Hopkins, and never took the risky fights: Jirov and Holyfield.

The funny thing about that is many will stay say that Froch really won, LOL.
Although i was born in the US, i have no problems saying when a Foreign fighter was robbed in the states. Felix Sturm was robbed against DLH, Fenech robbed in the first Nelson fight, John vs Juarez 1 etc.

Chris John vs Marquez possibly the obvious steals in history. Marquez was deducted 2 points and still won the fight in my card, yet he still loss the decision in Indonesia.

If you are true boxing fan you what both fair fights and decisions, regardless of continent or nationality.

He beat 4 hall of famers: Toney(when undefeated), Hopkins(when undefeated), Trinidad, and McCallum.

He also beat undefeated fighters as Griffith, Gonzalez,and Harding. I highlight the undefeated part as it means more to be the first person to beat the person as future opponents will study the film and make a gameplan in how to beat you.

As far as the europeans mentioned, he was willing to fight many of those guys either in a neutral country or in the states. He didn't want to be a victim of gift decisions and when Cliinton Woods came over the atlantic; he took care of him. If you see what happened to Jones in the 1988 olympics and how he was robbed of the gold medal, you can understand some reticence in his part going to europe. Gee, even Carl Froch is making a big stink about where to fight Abraham.

When Jones beat Tarver in the first fight, he was 49-1 and his only loss a questional DQ, he even hinted at retirement, he told Merchant "If i don't get a megafight with Tyson I am done". But he came back when he should have move back up to heavyweight or try at cruiser.

I do think some of the missing guys in his resume did hurt him a little on the ATG P4P list, that is why many will rate Pac, Leonard, and Whitaker higher on the P4P list, although Jones is also a 4 class champion.

I forgot about those 2 (Hopkins wasn't undefeated btw), but they add little to nothing to his legacy and resume. Virgil Hill is probably a future HOFer and worth more than those wins, but he just got done losing to Dariusz.

Like I said man, for whatever reason it was, he still missed a plethora of good fighters that fought in or around his weight class that should be on his resume, win or lose. It's OK that he didn't want to go abroad in fear of getting robbed, but I can't give him extra credit because of it.

Not fighting undefeated Jirov (who would have fought him in the states) is not a good look at all. the fact that old Tyson was #1 on his list should tell you something about how he thought

Froch-Dirrell is the reason why there are draws in boxing. Neither 1 of them deserved to win that sloppy, horrible impersonation of a fight. The biggest robbery is that someone actually won that fight.

Let's be real though, some of them didn't want to fight him, so I don't fault him for that...

But it could not have been pretty much all of them as his fans claim. He was a big name and moneymaker, so I doubt if RJ's demands were reasonable that he wouldn't have gotten a few of them in the ring.

And let's be real... Calzaghe was protected for years by Frank Warren.

I have a lot of respect for RJJ and i don't hate him, but there's is one thing that i didn't like about him, the lack or respect he had for his opponent. Even if your a superior athlete you still have to respect your opponent, beat him, take the money and leave...

It is probably the showboating, I found it entertaining..........but some people hate it. He was forever smiling, sticking out his tongue, talking, shuffling, putting his hands behind his back, waving his arms around!

I guess some people loved seeing him knocked spark out, or having the showboating put on him when post prime (like Calzaghe did).

Chris Eubank had alot of haters in his prime, who really rejoiced when he was finally beaten. But Eubank finished his career with three losing performances that really gained him crowd support. I remember his final fight with Carl Thompson, before the first bell the crowd support was so great for Eubank that it brought more than a tear to his eye. He went out like a warrior with real respect.........

BUT in the case of Jones, just when we want to see some vintage genius before he retires we have those awful displays against Green and Hopkins. They dont help his cause!



That said, I've never seen a more skilled professional boxer than prime Roy, he is a boxing immortal in my eyes. I can however understand the haters!

Post exile Ali was a very popular champion, it will be interesting to see how history treats Mr Jones
