We are assuming that Mike is prime, he was prime while with Rooney and back then he was never stopped. Also what evidence do you have that Tua hit harder than Ruddock?

So could Ruddock, but that didn't stop him from getting beat up

What could Tua do that Ruddock couldn't, both were ****ers with great left hooks. Prime Tyson was better defensively than Byrd, who went the distance with Tua. If he cant get Byrd out of there how is he going to get Prime Tyson out of there?

Tyson was past prime by 88, he was in prison for 3.5 years and hadn't beat anyone of relevance since 91 (Ruddock). He told Lewis that he wasn't ready but Lewis went to the sanctioning bodies and demanded they bump Tyson up to the no 1 spot.

Prime Tyson was at least as good defensively as Byrd, had more power and speed. If Byrd can go the distance so could prime Tyson.

A very good post and certainly these are points really useful.

Like whom ? tomato cans don't really count for that matter .
Tua's only opponent of Lewis' size was Lennox Lewis.

My evidence is Tua's fights , watch them.

Ruddocks' chin and stamina were nowhere near Tua's , and he hit weaker than Tua , compare Tua's KOs to Ruddock's and get it clear.
Ruddock was on the back foot for most of the time against an aged James Smith , Ruddock himself was aware of his not so good chin and power combination.

Tua could take Tyson's punches and then end the fight with a single well placed bomb.

Tyson's defense was good during his offense which is why he was better offensively than Byrd , but defense alone , Byrd's was better.
The thing is effective offense spares punishment from the offender , so it sometimes can be seen as defense.
Byrd fled for his life the entire fight and did not beat Tua like the scorecards mean for some , and Tyson fought nothing like Byrd did .
When was the last time Tyson ran for his life ?

I do consider Tyson a moderate favorite against Lewis prime for prime.

Again , it is the 2nd time you claim exactly the same thing in 2 consecutive posts in the same thread , Tyson fought nothing like Byrd , Byrd fled for his life and never won against Tua , Tyson would have tried to fight fire with fire and would have gotten stopped because of it against a fighter with greater punch resistance , punching power and stamina than himself.

This would've been a very tough fight for both guys, no one has really beaten Tua by going at him which is what Tyson would've done because that's basically the only way Tyson fought, Tyson would certainly win the early rounds with his speed and angles but what happens when Tua is still there and punching back in the later rounds? Tyson did show some frustration against Tucket and Smith but both of them fought to survive after a few rounds, Tua would be fighting to win. It would've been very interesting later in the fight when Tyson slows down some, that's when Tua would have a very good chance at winning and maybe stopping Tyson.

This is really not to say Tua is better than Tyson because he isn't by a long shot but style wise this is a tough fight for Tyson, very tough.

                  Ignore the tyson nuthuggers.

I think an 80s tyson wins, but it would be a HARD fight for him. I would've loved to see it.

I wish Tua would would, but realalisticly a tyson in his 19 and 20's would win within the first round.

Tua didn't have the killer insticnt that Tyson had. After Tyson inilated Spinks his became too ****y and went down hill on a personal level.

I believe a champ should always be a champ inside and outside of the ring.

Style wise Tua is a worse nightmare than Tyson for most fighters below 6'3" , and one of the reasons for it is that after all Tyson is taller and has a longer reach than Tua.
