The only HOF heavy Frazier did not fight during his era was Norton. The reason that fight never occurred because they were very good friends and Eddie Futch was their trainer. By the time frazier retired in 76, Holmes was still a preliminary fighter.

Jimmy Ellis won the 8 man tourament and a shot at unifying the heavyweight title against Joe Frazier who butchered Ellis in 5 rounds, Frazier had also beaten Bonavena twice by the time he became unified champion.

Ron Lyle was never in a position to fight Joe Frazier, Lyle only made his pro debut in April 1971 six weeks after Frazier won "Fight of the Century" against Muhammad Ali, Lyle suffered his first pro defeat 18 months later when Jerry Quarry easily beat him.. There was never a call for Frazier to fight Martin or Lyle with both only ever being fringe contenders.
wasnt this the supposed golden era where everybody fought everybody?lyle was a solid fighter.not great by no means but he definitely deserved a shot.he put foreman down so i would give him a good chance of putting frazier away.what about shavers?i can excuse norton

How and when did he deserve a shot against Frazier? I've already outlined the time line and reasons this fight was never able to happen with Joe. Shavers is another fighter who doesn't fit into the time line for Frazier. As far as Lyle knocking down Foreman.....big deal, it proves nothing. Jimmy Young had George on the canvas to, should we consider him a puncher? Better yet, maybe we should start claiming Frazier ducked him too.

He's knows hes lost and makes no sense so he's gonna come at me. hahah whatever dude. Obviously I know more then you since I don't make such ridiculous claims.

It actually proved that Lyle wasn't a weak, inferior fighter with a glass jaw.A strong fighter who could take it as well as dish it out.And a fighter who came close to actually knocking out a man who toyed with Smokey Joke frazier twice.

Jimmy Young beat Lyle and had Foreman on the canvas too. Was Frazier also ducking him?

Well this thread is about you and Joe Frazier, so please tell us about how crappy his career was so we can know exactly how much credibility to give you

I love reading what this guy says, honestly.

                      Don't compare Young's knockdown with Lyle's,gabby.

Young emerged as a contender at a time when Smokey Joe was on his way out.Young hadn't been consistently ranked within the top ten for as many years as Lyle had been.

And has nothing to do with clueless newbs who started watching the sport a few months ago and who think that their opinion on topics that have no clue about actually matters.
