      Tyson by k.o.

I am a JAMES TONEY fan but him at heavyweight vs. a primed TYSON wouldn't have been much of a fight. Must we forget that TYson was a vicious body puncher and one of the strongest heavyweights ever? TONEY was way to fat around the mid-section to take punishment there for a lot of rounds. Did TONEY ever face a primed heavyweight??? I don't recall it. HOLYFIELD would have beaten him up as well in his prime. Don't ever be fooled when an older fighter takes on a younger fighter and think the same thing would have happen during that older fighter's prime. It doesn't always mean that. Same thing with DE LA HOYA/PACQUIAO, MAYWEATHER/MOSLEY, LEONARD/NORRIS, I could go on for days but you REAL fans get the picture of what I am saying. TYSON by POUNDAGE.

Well he wasn't "finished" but that dosen't mean he was prime.

That's why it is not prudent for anyone to just put the name "Holmes" on Tyson's resume without further clarification. Prime Holmes would have done more than simply give Holyfield "trouble". The way i look at it is that Tyson beat some other guy who beat Mercer and accomplished various other things, but he didn't beat "Holmes" (As Tyson himself said after the fight).

I actually think James is the better fighter, and more of a great fighter than Mike.

Mike had a good run as HW champ, and battered some guys, but that was when it was all going his way, as soon as a not so great fighter (Douglas) fought to a gameplan, refused to be intimidated and pressed the whole way, Tyson crumbled and never really picked up the pieces of his career after that.

Toney has had his fair share of inconsistencies too of course, several caused by foolish approaches to making weight, cutting too much weight, lackadaisical training etc But James definitely showed up for his big fights (bar RJJ) and when James was on his game, there haven't been many better to ever do it. Solid speed, accuracy, tight defence, tenacity, chin, intelligence....you name it, James at his best had it.

And James fought through adversity in a way Mike never could. James had a much naturally stronger and bigger workhorse in Jirov pounding at him non-stop, and James refused to lose his cool, went with Jirov, picked his shots, held it with him, and then nearly took him out in the 12th to seal the win. Mike never would have been able to hold his head together through a really gruelling fight like that.

some people go out of their way to discredit Tyson

It is a hard question and at the moment I post this , I still did not vote.
In average Tyson's wins and losses were bigger than Toney's.
Tyson was better than Toney against bigger men , but when they were big enough and fairly skilled and trained , he was in a problem just like everyone else.
But then again , Tyson was also bigger than Toney himself.
