  • Trivia: 6 x Who am I?

    1.
During my career I defeated 8 world champions: 4 from one division and 4 from another.

    (Only champs recognized by BoxRec)

    2.
I was never a world champion - but I defeated 2 men inside the distance, who held world titles at lightweight and light-heavyweight, respectively.

    3.
On a list of non-HOFers who fought the most HOFers, I'm runner-up to Johnny Risko (who heads the list with 12).

    (IBHOF only).

    4.
I was the last man to challenge for a world title in my pro debut.

    5.
In two world title fights, I retired in my corner between rounds.

(Not sure if there's only one answer to this question... there could be more)

    6.
I was the oldest first-time world title challenger ever.

No, I'm afraid not. He beat Tunney - but since he was the only champ he beat at heavy, Greb can't be our man.

I just found this and no one has answered it. I can't believe I didn't see this before.

        1. Brian Nielsen

        2. Florentino Fernandez

        3. Gunboat Smith and Charley White both fought 11 at the time of this quiz, But Gunboat now has 12, the same as Risko.

        4. Arturo Mayan (who in 1994 was ko'd 90 sec. into the 1st round by Alex Sanchez, WBO minimumweight crown)

        5. Curtis Cokes

        6. Domingo Guillen????

I thought Rademacher was last guy to challenge for title in pro debut. I had no idea that someone else had done it after him.

Joves De La Puz - (challenged Satoshi Shingati for the IBF bantamweight title in 1984)

Yani Dokolamo - (challenged Dodie Boy Penalosa for the IBF light flyweight title in 1985)

Masaharu Kawakami - (challenged Kyung-Yun Lee for the IBF minimumweight in 1987)

Domingus Siwalette - (challenged Ratanapol Sor Vorapin for the IBF minimumweight in 1993)

Yeah, thought he was the last. Why anyone would fight for a title in their pro debut is beyond me. Unless you're one of those Muay Thai super freaks....

Just shows ya that anything can become common. I wonder how long until someone wins it in his first try?

Joves De La Puz came close, losing by a split decision.
