I just think if a guy like two ton Tony Galento can be in the top standing for a good portion of Louis' career - whats that saying about his competition. I know he wooped Schmeling but he also lost to him as well. Schmeling had some very amateur traits about him. He would turn his head to avoid punches at times and really didn't know much about fundamentals. I also question how Louis didn't adapt to his right hand over his low left that Schmeling did to him.
I'm one to say it's easy to pick apart anyones career, but going by this list I find most of them capable of beating Louis. IMO of course.
I should make note though, had those fighters grown up in a later time, they probably still would have been great. Louis would have been better with all the knowledge gained from the past, he probably would have been cut at 215 and would have been very strong. The exact version of the Louis we watch on tape though? I can't see him beating guys like Holyfield, Ali (the list..)
Cause if a HW came along and beat everyone in the division right now (A weaker division) and defended the belts (at least 2 of them) 25 times, he would definently be considered great regardless. So if we scale that then you can see where Louis get's his greatness from.
