  • The Crab/Cross arm stance/style

Who were the fighters that used this style, and why isn't it used today?

    Max Baer
    Archie Moore
    Ken Norton

It's not used because it's not taught. The gloves are also bigger these days so it's easier to simply use a high guard and block the punches, not deflect them with your shoulders and elbows.

Azumah used it often as well. And George Foreman in his later years.

David Tua is also using it I guess.

I am not a Boxer (not now) but what are the advantages of this stance?

I've tried using that defense before in sparring and was just uncomfortable with it. Looking at it it would seem more effective against fighters who threw straight punches instead of looping punches and hooks. Jmo.

Archie Moore's the only guy I've ever seen use that stye and still look smooth/fluid....

supposedly Tommy Burns was one of the first that used the style
