Ali fought Patterson(2), Liston(2), Frazier(3), Norton(3), Terrell, Ellis, Spinks(2),Holmes, Berbick and Foreman-all former champs. The top contenders he faced-Williams, Folley, Chuvalo(2), Foster, Quarry(2), Shavers, Young, Lyle, Jones, Bugner(2).

Foreman faced Frazier(2), Ali, Norton, Moorer, and Holyfield that were champs.

The contenders he faced-Chuvalo, Young, Lyle.

No contest-Ali has the better resume.

Ali, I didn't think of this as a close one either. In the ring there are a handful of fighters in history who compare favorably to Ali's list of accomplishments (Ray Robinson, Leonard, Roy Jones), outside the ring no fighter comes close. Foreman beat a lot of good fighters but against the top level competition of his time (70's and 90's) Foreman didn't beat the best he was in with Ali in the 70's and Holyfield in the 90's. Foreman never got to fight Holmes, Bowe, Lewis, or Mercer at their best either. Ali, however, fought and beat almost every recognizeable name in the best era of heavyweight boxing.

Outside the ring Foreman has been a terrific pitchman for an awesome array of wares from chicken to grills to mufflers. Ali had a Wheaties box, has a massive museum dedicated to him, is the most beloved athlete in history, and one of the most recognizable people ever.

Ali of course, he is one of the top two ever(the other in my opinion is Louis)

But I feel Foreman is greatly underrated as a all time great. If he never came back it wouldn't be but his comeback was amazing and suprising.

Foreman has a better resume than Jones mate and Jones' doesn't compare at all to Ali's. Good resume, but it's not close to Ali's. Also, Robinson doesn't compare favourably, as his resume is better than Ali's.

In my opinion anyway. There are guys with better resumes than Ali I believe. Very few but they are there.
