  • If Liston Had More Ring Rounds InThe Previous 3 years?

If Liston had more ring action in the previous 3 years than the 3 rounds he actually did have with Westphal and Patterson x2,when facing Ali.would the result have been markedly different?

That's a horse of a different color. Need to think on it . . . I still think Ali.

Me thinks . . . If you want Liston to win put Ali in with Liston a year earlier, not give Liston more experience.

The fight get’s a lot damn closer I think. It was competitive for the first while - many forget that. Liston especially by then wasn’t really much of a gym rat and was spending half his time as the casino ****ing hookers and likely doing drugs.

that being said, the problems with Liston is more so inside his head than his body - and if he had a work ethic and determination he wouldn’t be Sonny Liston then would he?

Liston became a victim of his own power and complacency 3 rds of boxing in 3 years ,hardly prepared him for Ali.

If this is true than Ali was hardly fighting a prime liston - even though his fight prior was his most famous victory

            - - All the $$$ was on a Liston early KO after Clay looked like shyte vs Cooper and Jones.

Clay ran like a scalded Cat with Liston chasing him winging left hooks that ultimately threw his shoulder out. Absent Mob directions, Liston boxes Ali in a more normal setting and we have a completely different fight.

It's my take on events, without blowing my own trumpet , I don't think anyone can say Liston did not think it was going to be a walk in the park.

Ali would have been a bit of a mug to stand and trade with Sonny don't you think?

                  - - Ali would run around for 8rds or so airjabbing with an occasional Rt cross that might land, basically his only two punches 90% of the time.

Liston would stalk making Clay run himself down, so when Clay has to stop and trade, anything could happen, but Liston much more the puncher, so I would've favored Sonny.

Thing is his mob wanted the early KO, but Clay was no Patterson.
