I wonder if there was a connection between the onset of pugilistic dementia (early brain damage) and having a difficult time with surrviving surgery back then.

I think the issue with running also may have been that he'd lose weight, and he probably needed to be bigger than normal to compete at heavy. But he appeared to gas badly in fights I recall. Could have used more endurance training.
