    The answer looks like no.

So what's being asked here is why Jeffries didn't treat Sharkey like he is special.

The answer is probably in who he did beat.

People liked the Munroe fight. Ivich loves fallacy.
The question being asked is who was the most deserving challenger?
The answer to that is below.
Sharkey beat the two best contenders who were then active, Corbett and Ruhlin both inside the distance Ruhlin inside 1 round!

After, losing a narrow decision to Jeffries,Sharkey beat 5 men inside the distance among whom were Choynski and Goddard.

    That's your question answered!
People liked the Munroe fight? Did they ?Then why didn't it draw a good gate? Why was Jeffries so dissapointed with his purse of$18,750. he promptly retired?

It's super bold, imo, hence my ducking it.

Maybe not for you, but for me; I simply do not know the era outside of principle characters well enough to give my own answer or judge yours.

Before this thread, for example, I would have told you the Munroe fight was really public pressure and the downside to taking it easy on a jabroni in a promo. That isn't me saying you are wrong, it is me confessing your opinion is different and interesting to me. New.

I'm just kinda here on this one. Observing and offering thoughts. If I thought you didn't have the constitution to handle it I wouldn't, but you honestly do your best work when confronted with a contrarian stance and I am earnestly interested. So, I am actively looking for something dissenting but my lack of any stance tells you how difficult you have made it for me.

A lack of 3 is weak. I can admit that, but it is also true and interesting. If you know the era well surely you know the answer. No one got a threepete out of Jeffers. Thoughts?

Most threepete happen as a rubber match,do they not?. Jeffries was 2-0 vs. Sharkey. And he was in the decline by 1901, and in bad way by 1902.

            - - Because he was a HUGE Man training down for fights with existing fare that would emaciate a sparrow.

Hence during his comeback vs Johnson while shedding his 300 bulk to a facsimile of his prime weight, he made himself sick before the fight.

Hence John L doing correspondence for a NY Paper mailed in his prediction for JJ revealed in the post fight.

He did get gigantic. And he looked like he could carry it.

This is interesting: Fighters back then felt a need to come in light, fighters today a need to heft up... Are these just prejudices? Makes one think. To me I would rather always be as light as possible.

Okay, then why are you not answering why Jeffries never fought anyone a third time?

Because instead of facing Sharkey for a third time, for what he knew would be another life and death struggle,he opted for 2 easier defences against men Sharkey had already stopped!
After their 2nd fight."Sharkey is the standout challenger ,when I am ready to fight again he will get first chance"
After their 2nd fight." Sharkey is the toughest, bravest man I have ever fought."

                  Question emphatically answered .
