I just read an article poster on CBZ years ago where Jones said he'd fight in Germany for 12 million. I think he outpriced himself at that time, but i think that is the only way he was going to take a chance of being robbed. Dariusz was the lineal champion, but Jones was still the attraction. It's a shame neither would budge.
I wasn't aware of that. Thank you.

12 million? Not sure if that was reasonable or not.

Occam's Razer: They were both making money; no common interested party involved. Wasn't going to happen.

Where's Don King when you need him?

The fight either had to be an international event, but at neutral location, e.g. Great Britain, Germany.

Or the fight had to be in Vegas (not promoted by HBO). Vegas can take on an international vibe and the scoring is scrutinize more so than at other venues. Vegas was a reasonable risk for DM but not if HBO was involved.

But anyway, there was too much reason for both to not trust. I believe Jones was bound to HBO at some level anyhow.

Nyet say Roy who turned down a record purse in Ukraine. They both lost badly after that, esp Roy who couldn't hold a punch anymore.
The Ukraine? What was the purse and when were they supposed to fight in the Ukraine?

Putting a distinctly average fighter with an even worse resume in Dariusz Michalszewski in the same stratosphere as an ATG like Roy Jones is just comical really.

Nevertheless you yourself started granting victories by saying that 'No one believes he was better than Roy Jones' which btw is an obvious lie.

Yes it's shameful that Jones didn't even try to get the real lineal title. In retrospect maybe he knew that DM's style would give him problems and Jones is a historical ducker.

Prize fighters don't fight for legacy. They fight for money.

The more I hear on this thread makes me think he didn't need Jones Jr. to have a successful career money wise.

And he never had the balls to try to prove otherwise.
