The fight! The word is a misnomer. There was no fight. No Armenian massacre would compare with the hopeless slaughter which took place in the Stadium. It was not a case of too much Johnson, but of all Johnson. A golden smile tells the story and the golden smile was Johnson’s … The fight had all the seeming of a playful Ethiopian at loggerheads with a small and futile white man; of a grown man cuffing a naughty child.Jack London

It's a common statement still used today. It makes a point about domination.
Read the round by round reports, from the contemporary newspapers and tell me which rounds were scored for Burns.

Without Burns there is no fight? Well ,you cant argue with that! lol
          Johnson toyed with Burns.

The Canadian was literally in over his head, and Johnson, a fighter ahead of his time in many ways, had Burns on the floor in the opening seconds and taunted the champion and indeed the crowd who had paid to see his demise. All would leave extremely disappointed.

“Poor little Tommy, who told you you were a fighter,” Johnson said to Burns. And clearly unimpressed by his opponent’s punching power added, “Tommy. Who taught you to hit? Your mother?”

Johnson probably could have ended the fight at any time. It was in truth, a Boxing Day massacre. Burns was carried by Johnson so the challenger could inflict further punishment, until the police called a halt to the one-sided beating in the 14th round and the world had its first-ever black heavyweight champion of the world. Burns claimed it was stopped too early and ludicrously said Johnson was tiring rapidly. Johnson had knocked reality away from the fallen champion.

The 5'7" 168 pound Burns looked yellow and sick according to those at ring side. Even Kevin Smith a historian on early black prize fighters agrees.

Yet is took Johnson over 14 of hugging and hitting on the break vs. a super middleweight to finish him? Yep. Impressive stuff. It's a good thing this was not 12 rounds, otherwise we have to deal with a decision and excuses. Johnson gave plenty of them in fights before and after Burns.

You want me to show this man respect?

Inside the square-circle is sacred ground. The men who enter it are special; regardless of skill there should be mutual respect.

Trash talk before a fight is fine it builds the gate. Once inside the ring it is an offense to tradition, an offense to all that which we hold dear.

This is why could I never be a Whitaker, Ali, or Leonard fan as well. This same disrepect.

This thread seems to have been significantly derailed. Regarding Joe Louis - a simple observation from watching his fights remastered - one against Two Ton Tony Galento and the other, the Schmeling II fight. Man, could Louis throw precise combinations with devastating power. Either hand possessed the "Good Night Irene" punch. Against Galento, his punches split Tony's face. Galento could endure tremendous pain. He even had his tongue restitched in a bar after a fight where he almost bit his tongue in two. He left the hospital early and was found in a nearby bar, drinking a beer. With no medication, whatsoever, (outside of the beer he was drinking,) the surgeon sewed his tongue back.

In the Galento fight, the fourth round is amazing. It all starts with a feint (right, left, right - heavy punch) and then Galento lunges for a left hook and Joe perfectly times a left that tears open Tony's face as the blood starts pouring out of the right side of Tony's mouth. Then, they circle and Joe chases him from left to right, delivering a left and right as Tony backs away. Then, the sequence where Joe, on the left ropes, delivers a pulverizing right to Galento's head. It's the beginning of the end as Tony is badly hurt. Joe adds to Tony's misery by firing eight shots in rapid succession to Galento whose back is now on the left ropes. Tony stumbles backwards and it's nite nite after that. A missed right, a right that connects, a left, an uppercut and then the good night, left hook, where Tony stumbles to the left and collapses in his corner.

The ESPN footage of the Schmeling II fight is the best where Joe delivers two tremendous body shots, one to the solar plexus and the other to the right kidney area. You can clearly see Schmeling grimace in pain (some ring accounts said you could here him screaming in pain) before Joe starts the canvas ride for Schmeling with a thunderous right.

Watch ESPN's show that near the end has footage of the many knockouts Louis had. I don't think you can compare them to most of the knockouts of today. I mean, these boxers looked like they were shot by a cannon. Legs with involuntary movement, collapsing, and in some cases, opponents dropping head first into the canvas. My favorite comment is by Max Baer after he fought Louis - - “I tried hitting the one in the middle but the other six just kept beating the hell out of me.”

No, no, no, it was a rhetorical question to introduce my complaint.

I don't care whether you care less or more.

Regarding Burns. I said trash talk before the fight is OK - I personally don't need such nonsense from any fighter but it's for the hoi polloi; it builds the gate.

In the ring, it stops. Inside the ring is sacred ground to real fight fans.

Burns gave public workouts up to the fight ,and stated he was in the shape of his life.Remember when you tried to claim he had Jaundice going into the fight?lol KevinSmith?Thats the guy who came on ESB Classic and told you to stop misquoting him wasn't it, He wasn't very happy with you was he! lol Burns was 168 1/2lbs just a pound and a half less than when he defended against Flynn and only 2 pounds less than when he defended against Moir.
The weight disparity between Johnson and Burns was 25 1/2lbs
The weight disparity between your hero Jeffries and Fitzsimmons for their 1 st fight was 39lbs.
For their 2nd it was 47lbs.
The disparity between Jeffries and Corbett 1 was 30lbs
For their 2nd fight it was 27lbs
                      Between Jeffries and Sharkey 29lbs
                      Between Jeffries and Finnegan 60lbs
                      Between Jeffries and Choynski 52lbs

Its funny I've never heard you mention any of those!
