He has a weak posture that is completely outdated in boxing, yet he's still revered as the best or second best heavyweight of all time. His bag work looks completely amateurish by todays standards. So if his mechanics aged poorly, why are we to assume that he as a fighter aged well??

Not everything is bad ofc, but if you'r fundamental stance is ****ty, nothing else matters. He doesn't have any solid core and he's easy to hit for a modern professional fighter (unlike the bozos he fought). His speed is mediocre at best. Not even that would compensate.

Joe Louis did not have poor mechanics, especially punching mechanics. The style of fighting in his era was perfect for him. He exemplified that style. That said, he ain't no top 10 AT heavyweight either, but he is top 20. I can't fault anyone who puts him in their top 10.

Poor sitting duck Quarry will be KO'd, of course, after landing some good punches of his own. The problem for moderns is that Joe fights equally well at all ranges, which they usually do not, being one trick ponies or half-trick ponies in most cases. No fighter is lacking in fundamentals when trained by Jack Blackburn. Joe just has to take them where they are weakest. He dispatches oafs like Chisora without much trouble. His problem is with the top guys. Wilder or Fury would kill him, unless the fight makes the later rounds, where it becomes an even proposition. Joe could still punch hard late in the fight. This could spell doom for today's oafs who usually bring a spare tire with them.

Poor level of opponents? Do tell. Because by my country off the top of my head he fought 6 hall of famers going 6-2, and 8 heavyweight champions going 8-3 and 2 lightheavyweight champions going.2-0.
