Now a days? the articles are much shorter with more advertising, less in depth. This is just an example and it makes it impossible to keep up the standards one saw in media like Sports Illustrated, etc. mags like the martial arts never had the quality of other areas, so it neve affected my situation, but back in the day you could "sneak" in a decent piece in Black Belt Magazine. I doubt one could do so these days.
    Check out American Scientist.

I like the dumbed down Scientific America it keeps me abreast with the latest info across the board. Most I don t have the desire to look deeper into but I like to be made aware.

Check out American Scientist i believe you will find the indept information/articles you are looking for.

        - - It also invites collectors.

When we moved into a better neighborhood, my mom who was the only one who had complete control over me laid down the new law. No More fighting, and now that you're at the age of a young gentleman, ditch the most extensive collection of baseball cards and comic books known to mankind in my time for daily public school slacks with dress shirts attire for my Jr High debut as a nerd in training.

But after helping my pop design and build our beach house on the Gulf, she couldn't keep me and my little bro away from a retired Houston magnate's Playboy collection going back to inception. We spent half our waking hours there once we came in from surfing to drink as much pop and snacks as we wanted as long as we didn't make a mess. Any mess and Rube grabbed his fly swatter and chased my ****** brother around for a good smacking and he was surprisingly quick for ol'man. Also was a regular at Vegas where he recounts seeing Ice Pick Willie, and as such kept a guest book as many in that beach community did, his being bigger than the size of the Houston phone book. Going through it I recognized a few celebs and athletes of minor note but the winner was Marilyn Monroe signing in.

I showed him and asked him it that was really her that he affirmed. Since he had several bunk beds and porch beds around, I asked where she slept, and he hollered, "I guarantee it was under me" that cracked us up. He loved the ladies such that he always had a good line for them, so he spent most of retirement at his beach house while his wife did their Houston home. What I would give for Rube's Playboy Collection.

Many posting here collected Rings that they refer to. I collected National Geographics and HotRod Magazines for a number of years that I have on my shelves, but never refer to them like Ring Collectors like to do.

The last few years Ring focused on epic collector issues, so I suspect those issues will continue once the termination hoopla dies down.

Not sure the Ring mags will be worth anything in the future.... at least the new ones. Ive seen old ones on ebay going for next to nothing. Now if you get them autographed, you might be on to something

            - - Such is the difference between MLBaseball where a Ty Cobb card from 1915 prob go over $millions. I had a Ty Cobb, but I don't know if it was from 1915 or not as they were printing his cards long after retirement.

Yeah, boxing in the ditch staging matches the greater public could care less about, but mostly just circling the drain.

I liked the KO magazine, especially their H2H matchups. The Ring got glossy but the meaningful content dropped off alarmingly.
At one time it had 2 photo pages of ring card girls FFS! If you want to look at women in next to nothing, and most men do, you could find a lot more rewarding viewing elsewhere ,you bought the ring for the boxing content, not T & A!
And who gives a F what music and games boxers listen to and play ,or how many tattoos they have?
Plus anything before the 70's got airbrushed out of history.

Ali items are still worth big bucks.

When they got rid of Rosenthal and made Fisher run Ring, it went downhill

I wrote many articles for Black Belt Magazine, which was and probably is, the most widely circulated and read martial arts magazine in the world. But with the media today and all, its really dated. its the treatment of subjects, but also the fact that they compete with multimedia like Youtube, etc.

I can go on Youtube right now and find gifted presenters... and books are, and remain, a much more complete treatment of any subject. Print media just has gotten dated.

                      - - Best U take care as Fischer got them hot Rican bloodlines and an accomplished Ama boxer who fought on some major boxing undercards in front of his media peeps before returning to ringside reporting.

He might knocketh U to Venezuela without saying a single Sayanora or Goodnight Irene...
