    Safety Inovations

    MQB - Gloves to protect hands.
    MQB - Three minute rounds.
    MQB - Ten Count ends fight.
    MQB - No assistance from seconds during ten count.
    MBQ - No spike or cleats on boots.
    MQB - Platform/canvas replaces dirt pitch.
    MQB - Three ropes to prevent fighter from falling out of ring; off raised platform.
    Various States - Number of rounds limited. (NJ-12; NY-15; IL-10)
    NYSAC (1923) - Neutral corner rule.
    NYSAC (1929) - Mouth piece allowed.
    NYSAC (1931) - Kidney belt allowed.
    NBA/NYSAC (1951) - Mandatory eight count.
    ABC (1982) - Standing eight count.
    WBC/WBA (1983-1986) - 12 round championship fights.
    ABC (1998) - Standing eight count abolished.

    Please add too or correct the above - thanks.

    Anyone know when . . . It became mandatory to have a doctor at ringside? ; When did they begin to regulate what seconds could feed to fighters between rounds? ; When was drug testing first introduced? - When did they begin day-before weight-ins; rehydration limits?

    - - Protective cup a huge one. Think fighters before that wore heavyduty padded jock straps.

    Sometime late 60s I seem to recall the first failed drug test, but not inclined to research something that only boxing can poorly supervise.
