Just because one guy likes a fighter and wants to call him great some other guy thinks it's his obligation to demean that fighter.

One guy here hates Toney, another Holmes, another Ali, another Dempsey, another Carpentier, another Louis, ETC. For what reason do they feel the need to discredit these men's effort?

The truth is they attack these fighters because they want to make the other poster look ignorant and the POINTLESS end of all this is the discrediting of a great fighter.

    WHY?

These posts are not history they are pissing contests between self proclaimed expert posters resulting in nothing more than demeaning accomplished men.

I don't get it! What does this have to do with boxing's history?
Boxings history is arrived at by accurately evaluating boxers! I'd guess that is pretty much self evident!
I don't hate Carpentier, and I believe I have given an honest assessment of his career.
I'm always prepared to have my opinions changed by lucidly explained facts ,in the case of the Orchid Man that has not happened yet!
Some posters need no help to make themselves look ignorant. We all have our own list of names!
I'm no expert on boxing and have never claimed to be one.
I was a long time regular on another Boxing Forum and learned a lot there, sad to say,so far, I am not learning much here!
    But I live in hope.

Baited ******** since the day you got here, you say? I have to call that a lie, which is what I expect from a ******* who can't win otherwise. Mister Philosopher. How about mister ******* the mendacious philosopher.? Hey, let's go have a riot, tear some statues down, close struggling businesses and defund some cops. You want to? Damned rights you do, Sally.
The Old LefHook and Willie Pep229 are two of the most valuable posters here, in my opinion. It's sounding strange saying it on a doggone Boxing board, but Don't Fight. It turns the Boxing content to ****. This is a lightly regulated forum and that's for the better. You guys have different political echo domes and that's fine. **** happens. And Ya, terms like Sally and Snowflake could be easily mistaken for baiting, lol. Let's maybe set it aside for right here. Blessed be the peacemakers!

Too bad about the stalled education. Great place to pick fights though, ya gotta admit.

Oh we are not fighting. We write hundreds of posts and were only squabbling on a few.

How often does his jab even land on that move? How often is there even a punch to slip after? It’s just another move he does that everyone has seen enough to call trademark, that’s not really a great thing.
That move if famous from his training videos and him showing it to people in person throughout the years and to this day. Plus it was never about actually landing the jab or dodging a retaliatory punch.
People are entitled to feel however they want about Mike Tyson.

But when analyzing his style let's not deal with feelings but with facts.

He didn't jab? This is just one round from one fight, count how many jabs you see him throw:

I prefer discussing the technical aspects of boxing rather than the nostalgia-heavy narratives and context-dependent records confined to history.

I do not despise the fighters themselves, but the hipsters with the "everything was better back in the day" mentality who never bring any proof to the table.

It is disrespectful to modern boxers who put it all on the line just to have their entire legacies dismissed because the sheep consider their era "weak".

In this thread in particular, the vast majority of people consider Louis or Ali to be the most complete HWs of all time with no detailed reasoning provided.

It is merely a "common sense" in the boxing community that those two will forever be the best HWs. I proceeded to attack this almost religious-esque faith.

Anyone can feel free to debate this topic with me. However, nobody has yet met the challenge.

Ali is my number 1, however Louis comes in at number 4 for me.I think both Dempsey and Johnson beat him.

I love this. Those are very often the Mount Rushmore choices and they're mine too. Defining what constitutes "Greatness" is of course task one. Most see that as a portioned amalgamation of contributions, win-loss x estimated quantity of opposition, time at the top and personal analysis of who might beat who. I see the force ranking of Ali, Dempsey, Johnson and Louis as a hair splitting endevour and I wonder if any could triumph 2 in a row against any of the other three. Interesting discussions include the observation that all turned pro over 60 years ago, right at the time that most sports fans might consider to be the beginning of the quote "modern athlete ".
Another sidebar woud be: Who is you pick for number five?
Jeff? Sam? Harry? Gene? Ez? The Rock? Sonny? Smokin' Joe? Larry? Iron Mike? Lennox? Tyson Fury????
                  It's anyone's guess.

Five is probably Holmes.Followed by Liston,Foreman,Lewis,Holyfield,Tyson. Rocky is about 11 and Smokin Joe 12.
