Charles had 121 fights and was knocked down 30 times, Quarry knocked Pattersn down twice, and the announcer mentioned that Floyd had not been knocked down in a no-title fight since his third. Patterson had 64 fights, and was knocked down.
Charles=24.79% chance of being knocked down
Patterson=25.00% chance of being knocked down
Patterson narrowly edges Charles in the percentage category, though Charles wins easily the the absolute number category. Few, if any, fine fighters have gone down 30 times in their career, especially a truly great one.

Great. I don't know where you got the information. Patterson runs away with it now, with 34.27 percent chance of being knocked down.
Of course this silly method only gives us a rough yardstick in terms we are familiar with, i.e., the arithmetic average, which behaves as if the knockdowns were perfectly distributed, either every 3rd or 4th fight, depending on whether you are Patterson or Charles. Of course we know knockdowns are usually clumped together, most often near the end of the career. Still, a small morsel of information is derived from the arithmetic average.
If those knockouts on Wilbur's list are in order, then Patterson must have been knocked down in each of his first three fights. That itself might be a record for champs. As Apples might say:
Charles was knocked down 12 times, in 1943 alone. Thats crazy
That 8 KD fight is bizarre - four years later he comes back to stop Marshall but still suffered another KD before stopping him in two. Kind of a nemesis. Marshall looks to be a pug with many fights and irinicallt not much of a punch. Must be why Charles keot getting up. Only 36 KKOs in over 90 fights. Go figure.
