In the late 70s, Gerrie Coetzee became a force in the heavyweight division. I remember the newspapers were happy to discuss whether his ‘bionic right hand’ was giving him an unfair advantage.

The Washington Post 1979: After Coetzee broke both his hands defending his South African heavyweight title in 1976, he had an operation in which the bones were sc****d and fused into the form of a loose fist, that according to one doctor "could punch a hole in a brick wall."

      - - Modern skeletal surgery uses titanium pins and rods for bigger bones. That's a distinct advantage over older gens like Tommy Loughran who essentially became a one armed jabber and hooker with the right only used for balance or defense.

A toughie, for sure. Headed into the ring with significant tools out of order.
BoxRec: When examining Loughran's career one must consider the, almost masochistic, abuse Loughran embraced.

I wonder if there’s been a case where two boxers hated each other so much that one of them shoots the other to death before their fight can even begin?
That sounds kind of ****** but then again real life can be pretty ****** a lot of times.

The Great Nash has given some serious thought to a boxing 30 man Royal Rumble and thinks it would break PPV records. This needs to happen. Eddie Hearn get on this. www.earnwithhearn.com

            Nash out.

Nah. Forget the last one. That's just silly.
Not a heavyweight, but I heard Claressa Shields in women's boxing, a middleweight, did move down to light middleweight, 154 to also become undisputed and lineal champion at that weight class as well.

A cage match ala pro wrestling or MMA. The use of MMA gloves and blunt force weapons. More interesting stipulations, like the winner gets a nice retirement package or no longer gets screwed over by their boss/landlord, this way things don't have to be tied up in courts. It's down to just if you're in the right, you win it in the ring. Got squatters in your house? Beat one in the ring and the cops can legally remove them. Only dispute would be the scorecards then. Gotta have judges that know what the hell they're doing. Got an online beef? Settle it in the ring or cage.

A fighter is given the decision win despite having been knocked out and the fight stopped. Not for any rules broken that were discovered post fight. Rather it is just deemed that they can't let the A-side money maker take a loss, so the judges ignore the KO and unilaterally give the victory to the fighter who was KO'd.

We saw a gal take the championship on a foul that essentially killed her opponent. Of course that was in an Eastwood movie. I thought that was a pretty good comment by Clint on how far it has gone, or how far it could go.
