  • Nonsenses

    - - Nonsensical fights that mean little in the larger scope of boxing around them in un ranked order:

Fury/Wilder trilogy-fighting each other for peanuts while turning down life changing purses vs AJ.

Holmes vs Butterbean, I mean Lar was so insecure that Bean was making more $$$ that he just had to step into it for his everlasting humiliation.

Ali vs Holmes-Last gasp of the Ali cottage industry that should've seen the commish, WBC, and promoters jailed in life sentences.

Leonard vs Camacho- just pitiable and tragically preventable.

Ali/Liston 2- No greater farce has been produced in life or on stage.

    Tyson/McNeely- When Words fail...

Mayweather/McGregor- Debut fighter McG mullered May with 111 Compubox punches, their last official bouts.

    Really, too many to count.

Of course but people pay for professional wresting and YouTube fights why shouldn't washed up fighters cash in?

Yes meaningless to the big picture of boxing but. . . Why not?

Hopkins third fight with Robert Allen.

Ali rematches with Quarry and Patterson.

Mayweather McGregor should have been an exhibition.

The Patterson fight looks to be a one last payday fight; some, even at the time, suggested that Ali had an affection for Patterson and saw him as a gutys undersized champion whom he respected.

The Quarry fight was a good choice for a comeback fight. A good enough fighter to give him a go but not a real threat while seeing if he still had his legs under him.

        Just my opinion.

[EDIT] My apologies I confused the Quarry fights, yea I'm not sure why the second fight took place either, but probably better than Richard Dunn.

P.S. Maybe the boxing community felt Quarry deserved another go because he was stopped so early via a cut - ???? - He did have a good run between Ali fights, seven wins against nobodies.

                - - Dunn a British southpaw actually had a Ring rating as I recall if we want to view a weak era in boxing.

Rudi Lubbers in Indonesia made Ali look out of his depth and in panic in the closing rounds as he couldn't close the show on Lubbers. Those were Ali's lost years. Even Jesus found Indonesia in his lost years.

                  - - Frazier making a comeback after a 5 yr absence vs Floyd Cummings was a terrible choice. I gather in his gym Joe had been looking good in sparring the usual hopefuls that he trained.

Jumbo would've won that fight if not for Joe's reputation that made it impossible for judges to fathom.

Interesting in Dempsey had more than few nonsenses after retirement. He went on a 2 yr exhibition all comers tour after the 1929 Wall Street Crash to recover most of his investment losses, so not nonsensical.

However, reputedly after watching Tony Galento sparring where Galento who was never the shy one started mouthing off on Jack's growing shape whereupon Dempsey jumped into the ring and knocked him cold post haste. I guess Jack had to uphold his manhood, but really, that sorta tickles the nonsensical while also being part of the Dempsey legend.

Had a similar manhood upholding bout never included in his record vs Cowboy Luttrell where he knocks him into the 7 levels of silly putty.

Honestly, that’s how I felt about the scheduled bout between Spence Jr. and Pacquiao. It felt like Pacquiao didn’t need to go out of his way to prove himself anymore. As for Spence, beating Pacquiao at that point would have felt like a hollow victory. I think Floyd Jr. made a good point when he said a couple years ago that up and comers and younger boxers needed to stop chasing after Pacquiao and start chasing after each other. That’s what’s good for the sport, that’s how legends are born.
