  • Why isn’t Hearns called a 6-time World Champion?

So, it says on Thomas Hearns’ Wikipedia page, specifically if you scroll down to the section that says “Professional Boxing Record”, it says he’s won the NABF, WBU and IBO Cruiserweight titles. Yet, he’s always advertised as the first guy to be champion in five weight divisions. Not only that, but the Wikipedia list for Sextuple boxing champions, Hearns isn’t even listed.
    What’s up with that?

Always seems funny to me that the WBO and IBO were created the same year yet it took the IBO many more years to gain the same recognition. Either way I'm of the opinion that they're just trinket titles unless unified and or lineal. Hearns is rightfully a top all time great because he went up and was always one of the best in so many divisions....not because some org that sanctions a fight as a world championship says he was a world champion.
