Do you ever question boxing as a sport?

We all know, being hit to the head cause damages to the organ we are most dependent on.
Do you spare a thought for all those forgotten challengers, whose names rarely are mentioned
in these kind of forums? The ones who fell into oblivion after their fighting careers, with their brains
    and future destroyed?

If in a so-called civilized society, why urge young kids to take on boxing, when there are so many
    other sports to choose between?

I think of the ones who fell into drugs and alcohol, many who I've known myself. I think about the promise they once had and how far they have fallen. Breaks my heart.

Were finding out more and more that all sports cause injuries... European football, causes memory problems from headers, much less American football. I have always had mixed feelings ethically but what I decided was to base my decisions on what I would want for me... It kind of works because my body has been torn up pretty good, have had concussions, etc from martial arts...

The central question becomes: given a choice, to live a life of little risk, little danger, and avoiding bodily contact, etc so one could live a pleasant old age, versus living a life of adventure, getting credability in manly pursuits, but... limping towards the proverbial finishing line... and for me? I live in a lot of pain, i am reminded of my choices daily... and I would not change anything. Despite the danger and the pain... when I was at my best I was a bad mfker and to me that is worth it. So I can live with other combatants who feel likewise.

I honestly feel like the human body was not made to live for ages in balance with nature... I was fortunate to live that way while living in a Buddhist monastery, and its great but... Nothing ventured, nothing gained... To me it is selfish to take care of oneself avoiding conflict. To many people need people that are willing to risk their life for a greater good. Combat does push us towards those values lol.

Fighters that never made it big are most fighters, guys like Rock em... and Omega (from another forum). But these guys accomplished something incredible fighting professionally and to me they share the same values I do. I do feel bad for the pain and suffering... but I also extend the same courtesy to others I do to myself and understand that it is all worth it... and occasionally? Someone like Tim Witherspoon pops up... who seems to be doing very well! and the opposite side of that coin emerges where we can rejoice that some make it through in one piece.

My story too. Lots of lost friends. For some reason, it was often the nicest guys that got hooked.

Speaking about this topic....this is a guy I fought as an amateur, he came so close to reaching the top. Sadly this is how far he has fallen.

The game needs punch-drunk old pugs and trainers. Interview more punch-drunk pugs, please. Remember Paul Newman in the Hemingway boxing story? The first punch-drunk ****** will achieve a real milestone. Cross sexual matches are the coming thing. Tag team matches are possible where all four participants are of different sexes! It must be almost time for Thor and Eddie Hall. Now there's a freak fight.

                - -We got Cornflakia burning up every year in this third millennium with a Gerontacracy dominating American Democracy, a 100 year war started in the Middle East already racking up a trillion bucks of death, destruction, and global warming, more homeless than the Great Depression, a nation addicted to Big Pharma and Crime ridden Mexican drugs, et al ad infinitum, and you're worried about boxing?

Yo, Proactive! Inaugural Bridgetteweight title, Oscar Kaboom vs Bruiser the Cruiser. You know you're pumped, and so who you got?

Its a rabbit hole and a half... "The life" can be really addictive. I fought quite a bit, never liked to fight...but that adrenaline rush! And for me even worse... the feel of those endorphins kicking it... There is no drug that comes close. It makes people a bit of a risk for drug use.

I am fortunate that the exent of my brain stuff seems controllable to this point... But I exerscize my brain a lot... Because I have had some bad concussions. and apparently they can leave affects.
