  • Bridgerweight title ?

LOL ! The gap between Light heavyweight and heavyweight was too big hence the Cruiserweight division and now the gap is too big between smaller heavyweights and superheavyweights. Is that what this Bridgerweight title is ? Bring on the Bridgerweight division Oct. 22: Montreal (ESPN+)
    • Title fight: Oscar Rivas vs. Bryant Jennings, 12 rounds, for vacant WBC bridgerweight title

Someone, somewhere needs to be dragged out to the street, put on his knees and shot in the back of the head (you know like the Asian commies do it) OR we can include another weight class and make five more belts available. I am for the former, let's shoot someone.

P.S. What weight are they talkng? 210 sounds about right to me.

I knew nothing of the Bridgerweight division until I looked at the upcoming boxing schedule and found mention of this for the Rivas vs Jennings fight. Apparently the WBC shows this division as 200 lbs to 224 lbs. I found this link with rankings. UGH ! https://wbcboxing.com/en/bridgerweight/

Yup, another useless division. At least for now there's only one champion in BW, or will be when there is one. Only a WBC division so there is no dispute. If you're WBC champ you are BW champ period....and that's the sole upside I could locate.

Seems to me as soon as there's a population of pros large enough, in numbers, the bodies will make a division of them. They always justify it with fairness but we all know there's no great small HWs who'd shine if they just had a shot to. Or do shine outside of fighting oversized HWs. I don't buy that too small bull. Just enough untalented smaller end HW to make a division and pretend one of them is worth damn and little else

Trying to say something positive. . .

BW challenging HW could become the new LHW champion stepping up . . . E.g. Conn-Louis; Foster-Frazier; Spinks-Holmes, ETC. That dynamic played well throughout the game's history and this could recreate the necessary weight structure for those fights to build excitement.

But I fear Marchegiano may be correct - just an opportunity to make smaller HW contenders champions.

That's a great take really. Probably shouldn't see it as splitting the HW division again as much as a stepping stone for small fighters in general. TBF, I'd be impressed if Canelo won a BW. A guys like Spinks having CW and BW to go through before HW does give him a little more chance to shine...so maybe they actually got something there.

Good on ya Pep, seeing the good side of things.

Why or what is a bridgerweight?? If there really is a need to provide a separate division for 'small heavyweights' (surely an oxymoron in its own right?), then why not simply go and put a weight limit on heavyweight and add on super heavyweight for the really massive dudes, say 238lbs plus. Anyway, after Usyk winning I think he has shown this division to be the pile of s##t it is already.
How about 'extra superheavyweight' for Thor v Hall and any other fat boys out there? 320lbs plus. Any takers, WBC, WBA, WBO, IBF, IBO etc
Oh yeah they already do that and it's actually called WWE.... lol
