Why would anyone believe that a basketball player, no matter how good an athlete, would be in any way competitive with the heavyweight boxing champion of the world? Find a new sport to follow if you don’t believe that Ali ends it any time he wants.

Ali would do just as well playing one on one basketball vs Wilt as Wilt would do against Ali in the ring. Both completely no contest affairs.

        - -Talk to Howie who was led to believe Ali was ready to sign the agreed contract.

I only deal in reality, not U majic unicorns jumping over The Man in the Moon landscape. We've already had McG making Son of Senior look like a punch bag and Logan Paul battering him around like like one of his baby mamas.

Wilt wasn't even known as having a mean streak, he was the "gentle giant" on the court. He clearly didn't like hurting people and he certainly didn't like others hurting him. He wouldn't have been ready for a fight mentally let alone physically.

Ali WAS ready to sign contracts, it was Wilt who backed out. Unless you can prove otherwise of course.

Can one prove that Ali was going to sign?

A couple of 7th graders push each other in the boys' room - one backs down do we really know if the other kid would have gone through with it?

We do have the opinions of people associated with the fight, or proposed fight if you will. That is a far cry more than an opinion with no basis behind it. Wouldn't you agree?

Why would anyone who knows the sport believe Ali would back out of a fight with any basketball player OR any athlete from another sport? They were not trained to fight.

IMO the two things that suggest Ali would have taken the fight in '69 is the money issue - he was broke at that point - Ali even said that Frazier slipped him a couple grand one time just to tide him over - second Ali did take the wrestling match for money so why not Wilt?

Actually... you could flip the logic on your last statement. After doing the wrestling match Ali probably felt "no way!" Ali probably knew that if he fought Wilt, the mechanical octopus they used for Ed Wood movies, that a Demoral intoxicated Bella Lugosi had to wrestle (because the mechanism broke) was looking for a match as well.
