Curry is a tough call, he looked devastating in his shortish peak but when you look at his resume you can't help but wonder how good Starling and McCrory really were.
Honeyghan who no one would call an ATG made him look very ordinary, Jacquot too.
Guys like Curry are a good reason why you have to enjoy a fighter at the time but not get carried away when people say he is the greatest, time will always tell.

Welterweight and Middleweight have historically been the deepest divisions. It's really hard to make headway in them they're so stacked.

I'd say that Starling was very, very good but both of those fights were very close and could have been scored either way really. Curry didn't truly prove he was a level above Starling who beat men like Lloyd Honeygran, Simon Brown, Mark Breland.

McCrory I don't rate as highly. He was a huge welterweight but it also led to him being weight-drained. By the time he fought Curry, he had no punch resistance whatsoever. I have however always been impressed with the left hook Curry finished off with, one of the best left hooks you'll ever see.

That's more like it......My man Charles Burley belongs right there.

Burley whipped and knocked down Archie Moore,on a 3 hour notice. He fought Ezzard Charles to a close fight several times.I could go on and on....

Good list.....But Duran should be higher.

I agree always nice to see Burley up in the ratings.
Duran was good at welter but great at LW so there is something to be said for Poets method of deciding on a weight class and putting a fighter in just one. Though that said then you can argue about whether they are in the right weight class I guess.
Poet goes for Langford at welter whereas I would put him in as middle and probably another 2 people would have him in at LHW and heavy.
Jab likes Holman Williams at welter whereas I like him at middle and Jab points out correctly you could use the same rationale for Burley.
GreatA has pointed out that Armstrong mainly fought at 140 as a welter so you could drop him down to light welter where he would be the definate no 1 for my money, it would also be nice to have such a great fighter at the top of a weight class rather than 2nd.
Been a nice thread with some good points made by some knowledgable posters.
Would be nice if all threads could be like this differences of opinion but constructively made without insults thrown around.

Credit to Jab for kicking the thread off and posting his list, he's a braver man than me lol.
I started a top ten list myself but it hurts to leave so many good fighters out, as for ranking them...........

For the record, I rank Burley number 6 all-time at Middleweight.

Top ten would certainly be fair.
Who above, Ketchel, Greb, SRR, Monzon, Hagler?

I like Fitz as a LHW personally so he's gone and redone the rest for you as you were obviously confused on the rest, Greb @ 7 tsk tsk.

Zale in the top 10 suprises me, tough guy but he was middle of the top ten in his era let alone all time IMO.
