Only reason Corbett got a shot was they was in a few plays together and JJ was terrible rude and ****y, enough to talk Sully into busting his big mouth that didn't work out so well.

I never knew this was a musical. LOL -- I wonder if the great John L ever busted out with a song or two.

I do know the play climax was Sullivan (shirtless) sawing a large tree trunk in half before his opponent could match him. It brought the audience to their feet cheering on the champion.*

* In the film Gentleman Jim they switched to Sullivan (Ward Bond) swinging an axe. Guess that might have been a little too dangerous to do night after night.

I found the promotion poster for the play but BS won't let me upload the pic from my cell phone. Anyone have advise on how I might do that? I keep getting a warning denying access saying 'no Url found.'

I don't mention it in my thread. But Sulivan would never give the great Peter Jackson a shot at his title due to the colour of his skin. That would of been a great fight, and one that I would of fancied Jackson to come out the winner of.

Jackson is a extremely underrated fighter. Due to the colour of his skin he was denied his chances like so many great black fighters were. A young James J Jeffries destroyed a washed up Jackson. Jackson also fought James J. Corbett aswell as many of the other great fighters of his era.

To be fair Sullivan was just about done when Jackson rose to his deserved prominence. Sullivan certainly didn't want to fight him and,once he was champ neither did Corbett.
