  • Max Baer - candidate for IJSHOF

I received an email inquiry from a gent who is the current Election Committee Chair for the International ***ish Sports Hall of Fame.

Seems he has contacted boxing historians and old media types in the past to ask: "Was Max Baer ***ish ?" Nobody could provide him with concrete facts on the subject, yet old Baer fans would often inquire, "Why isn't Max Baer in the IJSHOF ?" To which the committee would reply, "He wasn't ***ish."

It was decided that Max could be nominated as a ***ish ICON, rather than a true ***ish sportsmen, largely based on the marketing campaign behind the Schmeling bout, and his continued support of ***s during his lifetime.

However, when I replied to the Election Committee Chair, I provided him with irrefutable proof that both of Max's grandparents were ***ish, therefore his Father was ***ish, therefore Max was half ***ish.

Soooo, twould appear that this October, Max Baer's name will appear on the annual ballot sent to members of the Committee.

    I'll keep everyone posted !

In this paternal society, both now and especially in the past, it has always been intriguing to me that "***ishness" is traced through the maternal line !

probably because back then you could say the father was anybody. it's clear who your mother is it's the ***** walking around with the giant stomach for a few months who dropped you out of her *****.

The Cinderella Man movie portrayed Baer as an evil guy but he wasn't. "Jethro" was really ticked off at that. Max actually set up a fund for the kids of the fighter that died in the ring against him and the movie made Baer look like he enjoyed the fact he killed a guy in the ring.

I can understand that it was done for dramatical purposes, but I really didnt like that about the movie myself knowing about Baer what I already knew.

I know how they turned him into a villain for the film. That's the business.

It's obvious watching the old footage though that Baer was more clown/showman than anything else and he did take the death of Frankie Campbell badly. Many say that he intentionly held back after that because he was afraid of hurting someone again.
