I think its hilarious to here these guys say he would have beat guys like Tyson, Holyfield, and Lewis. No way in hell.

Holyfield in his prime at cruiserweight was 176, but no white in history could beat holyfield or tyson even though mike is only 5'9

Holyfield fought exactly one time at a weight of 176. After that he was mid 180's to 190.

        Just ludicrous.

Not only has training equipment changed immeasurably in the last seventy years, but what they knew about nutrition in the 1940s cannot even be compared to what our nutritional knowledge of today.
You think 80s or 90s kids are tougher then 1920s or 30s kids?

Training equipment is bs. Anyone can get a top work out if they work hard enough.

The nutrition in fruit and vegetables also used to be better then it is now.

Also one of the smallest reaches in heavyweight history champion history. The man nowadays would fight likely as a Cruiser or LHW somthing many imbecils fail to recognize so comparing him to guys like Lewis or Klitschko is nonsensical.

The fact he is stepped in the ring 49 times and won each time and some included great fighters-sure some were past their prime as Louis, Archie, and Walcott but he proved he can win even if knockdown or behind in points.

          • 41 pages of trolls being proved wrong and utterly crushed. God damn i love the History section.

Bit back on topic, although marciano was relatively untalented he was very hard working and would outlast most opponents. He also punched harder than the average heavyweight and did so nonstop for 3 minutes of every 15 rounds. Not to mention he would punch you anywhere was open, and if nowhere was he would break your arms with punches.

            Trolling fail.
LOL at TS being banned. and why revive such crap topics?

            • People put too much thought behind the size difference I think.
Marciano may not have been the biggest, but he's just about as determined and headstrong a champion one could imagine.
Do you think Marciano would have ever quit against Byrd? or get stopped by the likes of Corrie sanders? no. and that's what seperates him from the other champions.
personally I see Marciano ripping through the heavies today. it wouldn't even be close.

I think he was more talented then you give him credit for. He did not have a long reach so could not box great on the outside. He was good at avoiding punishment to get inside and on the inside could outbox his opponents. He was talented in a way like Frazier, not everyone has the physical make up of Ali.

Oh no no no, you misunderstand me sir. I mean that he wasnt fast or reflexive( is that a word? lol) like most fighters who go on natural instincts. He was a learned fighter by being a gym rat developed techniques and a fighting style that would pose problems for anyone. I in no way mean to underrate the guy.

He wouldn't last two rounds with Audley Harrison, let alone greats such as Michael Spinks or Lennox Lewis.

who did he ever beat? he couldn't even beat an ageing louis

Sure that is true he was not blessed with the talent in the form of speed. I think to win with his 68 inch reach and not really having a size advantage unlike some heavyweights he had talent in some forms but that is true his speed was not great.
