No offense, but I have very little time for posters who have to rely on BoxRec as their primary or only source of information in regards to fighters.

i have no time to waste debating with posters that think dempsey has a better resume when he clearly doesnt. None of those chumps could have beat tyson and bowe u idiot.

holyfield did more, thats my point bud. Its not even a comparison, dempsey is padded with guys that have losing records or are straight up chumps. Bert cooper would have been a big win for dempsey. Gunboat smith is a chump, the fact that he was a big win is what makes it laughable.

If your going by their records, I can tell you from experience that most of his opponents records are not complete. I know they had many more bouts then whats listed.

Bert Sugar rates Dempsey as #3 all-time in the Heavyweight division (in 1991 he rated him #1) and #9 pound for pound.

Back when he was boxing, not too many people wanted to get into the ring with him. The only thing I have against Rating him high is that he ever fought a Black boxer. After Jack Johnson, most promotors would not here of it, so I can't blame Dempsey.

LMAO!!!!! You're killing me with this Tunney was a light-heavy, Charles was a light-heavy, Marciano wasn't a real heavy stuff. What do you think Evander Holyfield was?! What do you think his weight would have been if he had been fighting in their time periods and didn't have the advent of modern weight training?!

The fact is Tunney was a far bettter boxer than Holyfield was and all anyone has to do to see this is watch the footage. I actually am a big fan of Evander Holyfield and loved his passion for the sport and his never say die attitude; but that doesn't mean I'm going to buy into any grandiose post-modernistic bs that he was better than all who came before him. I think he was the greates cruiseweight of all time and feel p4p he was above exceptional...and had the biggest, or one of the biggest hearts ever. However, Holy had a sub-par defense and was not as technically astute as Tunney nor Charles. He might have done better in an era with smaller heavies, so, I'm really not taking anthing awaw from him...he's a solid Top 15 World Heavyweight Champ...but I can't put him in the top 10 in good conscious.

Exactly, they just tried to keep the sport white. Would he really have a prayer against tyson and bowe? Bert sugar is an old school bias type guy, michael spinks isnt in his top 100 of all time when ring magazine has him top 50 pound for pound.
