Hitman is one of my favorite fighters, but he had a weak chin and poor endurance. But he had pretty much everything else. Speed, power, footwork, reach, and especially height.

hearns is a class guy! people only know about the busted hand because manny steward mentioned it long after the fight.

Hearns was amazing, his speed is underrated, he had incredibly fast hands and elusiveness, his only problem is he liked to run around showboating with his hands down, often getting tagged on his less than stellar chin.

Most of the time though, his speed and power won the night

I wouldn't say he had a **** chin. He was only knocked out by two guys. He didn't have a great chin, but, I do think the fragility of it is overestimated. I think, as you mentioned, that it was more his stamina that gave him problems. His stamina was best at 154 which is where he was probably the best at any weight and I would consider him among the best 154 pounders ever, though he didn't have a great deal of fights there.

If he was fighting today he would be utterly dominant. There would be no Mayweather as P4P king as Hearns would be dominating the divisions from WW all the way up to SMW or more, all the more with all fights as twelve rounders.

I do find it interesting that his 'win' over Leonard isn't talked about more. It was a huge fight and as their first match was fifteen roounds and the reason Hearns lost I'm still surprised that more people don't bring up the fact that he quite literally dominated Leonard in it. It was simply impossible not to have him well, well ahead especially after the two knockdowns. It doesn't seem to get that much of a mention in the "All Time Robberies" type threads either, which is also surprising.

Anyway, I have always absolutely loved Hearns. He was one of my dad's favourite fighters and as such I grew up watching all of his fights over and over. The first battle with Leonard is still one of the great fights of all time.

Hearns is the man! He was a huge welterweight at 6ft and his right cross could easily take out Cruiserweights. The guy always came to fight and could basically do it all. He didn't have the hardest chin.

...and there are some questions about his chin; but I don't think it was all that bad...it wasn't all that good; but it wasn't all that bad. Also, he would always have had trouble with someone with a good left hook; but if he were coming along today in the welterweight divison today he'd give just about everybody fits. Mayweather and Mosley would have tremendous difficulty overcoming his height and receach. His right hand would be potentially deadly for Cotto and Cintron. And his boxing ability would topple Margarito.

He's an ATG, no doubt; but thanks for recognizing him.
u forget he lacked balance as well, it just wasnt there like hagler, keonard or duran also he had a knack of running out of steam when it mattered most

lets not get carried away, as good as Hearns was Hagler had an impeccable chin. he only touched canvas once in his career in what he claimed was a slip. he was also medically diagnosed with having an extra thick skull!

what cost hearns the first bout with leonard was his inability to clinch.

when he got in trouble he didn't have a proper clinch technique.

in the kronk gym, clinching was frowned upon. emanuel steward discouraged it.
