Sengoku announces second round matchups for featherweight grand prix

On Monday, Nam Phan (15-5) independently announced his Sengoku featherweight grand prix matchup with Michihiro Omigawa (5-7-1).

Today, the organization officially confirmed that bout and also announced the remaining three contests in the second round of the tournament.

The four bouts, all featuring first round victors, will take place at Sengoku Eighth Battle on May 2 at the National Yoyogi Stadium in Tokyo, Japan.

Hatsu Hioki (18-3-2), who submitted Chris Manuel in the opening round, will meet Ronnie Mann (16-1-1), who earned a unanimous decision win over Tetsuya Yamamda to advance.

As previously announced on his official website, Phan will meet Omigawa.

Masanori Kanehara (12-5), who earned a unanimous decision over South Korean Jong Man Kim in the opening round, will face Kim's countryman, the young "Korean Zombie," Chan Sung Jung (3-0). Jung earned a submission win over Shintaro Ishiwatari in their March bout to advance to the second round.

Undefeated Marlon Sandro (13-0), who advanced by sescuring an impressive standing arm-triangle choke over Matt Jaggers in the grand prix's opening round, meets "The Ninja of Love," Nick Denis (7-0). The Canadian Denis is also undefeated, and earned a first-round TKO win over Seiya Kawahara to advance to the grand prix's quarterfinal.

Sengoku Eighth Battle will air in North American on HDNet.
