JMM vs Salido looked like a mismatch from the start. Good win for JMM but I wasn't too impressed. When Salido was moving in and out he tagged JMM and the latter would connect 1/4 punches in his counter combos. But Salido stayed in and got clocked a couple of times. What a snooozer.

Marquez's bid for superstardom suffered a set-back in his lackluster performance against Salido. Although no single fighter should be judged based on a single fight, what he showed could not make us think he'd ever bring excitement to the ring. (The excitement generated in the Pacquiao fight was mainly Manny's) He's as interesting to watch as an appendictomy. Moreover, questions can now be raised about his much vaunted KO power and reflexive counter-punching: when Salido put some punches together, he got to Marquez, and, Marquez never had Salido in the kind of trouble that would have lifted his most die-hard fans' fannies out of their seats. Salido simply lacked the power and yet he managed to inflict some damage on Marquez cheek (that swelling beneath his eye?). Forget about Pacquiao; I don't think Marquez, even with his near-legendary recuperative capacity, can survive a Rocky Juarez or a Chi. I think Harrison, who doesn't have much power either but is a non-stop banger, can give Marquez fits. Raheem who recently lost to Juarez by UD can be dangerous for Marquez, if Raheem comes unfazed by JMM's reputation. Pacquiao, now, more than ever, should think MORALES even if by some quirk of circumstance, Morales loses to Barrera in their upcoming third encounter. A Morales-Pacquiao set-to would still be a sell-out. Marquez could hardly sell tickets with that performance vs. Salido! He drew farther away from being the marquee player that Arum hoped he'd prove to be that night. Pacman should now make Marquez await his turn. KarmaLast edited by grayfist; 09-20-2004, 03:33 AM.

Everyone says you do what you have to do to win. But boxing is all about sales. You can sell your style, your set for your career. Marquez did look unimpressive against a fighter of lower caliber. No wonder he's the avoided one...everyone wants to sell fans ppvs not putem to bed.

I guess Manny was the only thing that made their fight exciting. It's looking to be fight of the year candidate and until now I think it takes the cake. The fight that can prolly top it off is teh Trinidad/Mayorga fight. We'll have to wait and see.
