A fight between junior middleweights Erislandy Lara and Ishe Smith is apparently taking place on May 2.
Floyd Mayweather, who promotes Smith, talked about the matchup at Saturday's press conference announcing his own fight with Marcos Maidana on May 3.
BoxingScene.com was told the event is potentially taking place at the Hard Rock in Las Vegas, with FS1 televising.
Lara (19-1-2, 12 KOs), a Cuban who now calls Houston his home, is coming off a dominant unanimous decision victory over former titleholder Austin Trout in December and a stoppage of Alfredo Angulo six months prior. Lara and Mayweather share the same adviser, Al Haymon.
Meanwhile, Smith (25-6, 11 KOs) dropped a split decision to Carlos Molina in September that also cost the Las Vegas native his 154-pound title belt.
