Felix Verdejo's Return Pushed Back, Possibly To April 20

By Miguel Rivera

Lightweight contender Felix Verdejo will have to wait a little long for his first ring outing of 2019.

It was previously reported that that the Puerto Rican fighter would fight again on March 17 in New York City. However, that plan never materialized. Ricky Marquez, the trainer and manager of Verdejo, confirmed that there is now a new tentative date.

"Top Rank's people never confirmed March. Now we are look at the possibility that it will happen on April 20, but that is not safe either, "said Marquez to Carlos Gonzalez.

Verdejo could be part of the undercard to the scheduled welterweight fight between Terence Crawford and Amir Khan, which takes place at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

"We are looking for a good fight for that card, but we are waiting for confirmation. We are not applying any pressure on ourselves or rushing. Felix continues to work and make the necessary adjustments," explained Márquez.

"I have in the agenda to communicate with Carl Moretti (vice president of Top Rank) to know how the plans are going. There is also the possibility that Felix is ??fighting again in Puerto Rico, but we do not have a date for that either."

Last November, Verdejo (24-1, 16 KO) knocked out Mexican Yardley Armenta Cruz in the second round. The show was staged at the Mario "Quijote" Morales Coliseum in Guaynabo. It was his first fight since he shockingly lost his undefeated record when he was stopped by tough Mexican contender Antonio Lozada Torres in March 2018.
