Eubank Sr. To Eubank Jr. - The Decision Was The Right Decision

By George Mills, courtesy of The Daily Star

CHRIS EUBANK JR was scolded by his dad Senior in the dressing room after losing to George Groves in the World Boxing Super Series on Saturday night.

Junior was outclassed by the bigger, more experienced man over 12 rounds at the Manchester Arena as Groves delivered on every promise made before the WBA super-middleweight title showdown.

Scorecards of 117-112, 116-112 and a generous 115-113 earned the 29-year-old a unanimous decision victory, leaving Eubank Jr contemplating an uncertain future in the sport.

Newly-released video shot in the aftermath of the fight shows Junior having his hands unwrapped by former world champion father Senior, sounding confused by the decision.

“How did it look? I didn’t feel like he did enough,” Junior says.

“I thought I did enough in the later rounds to nick it but I don’t know how it looked.”

Senior says: “Let’s drop that subject.”

“I want to know,” Junior presses.

“Be real. If you guys think he won, then you think he won.”

“The decision was the right decision,” Senior replies.

“You have got to see it.”

“What do you think,” Junior continues.

His words, delivered with an expectant glance at his friends and family, were met with silence initially before a pal finally answered.

“It was a close fight,” he admitted, tellingly.

Having now fallen short twice against elite opposition, first against Billy Joe Saunders in 2014 and now Groves, Eubank Jr faces a puzzling future.

But the Hove man might have been thrown a lifeline after Groves sustained a serious shoulder injury in the 12th round of their entertaining battle.

Saint George appeared to dislocate his shoulder throwing a jab with less than two minutes left in the fight – an injury that could potentially see him ruled out of the super-middleweight tournament final on June 2.

“I’m a fast healer,” Groves said on Sunday.

“We’re gonna wait and get medical advice first and then we’ll know much more about the situation but I’m in a confident frame of mind.”

If Groves is unable to fight, WBSS promoter Kalle Sauerland confirmed Eubank Jr is one of the candidates who could step in as a potential replacement.

A boxing Lesson. Deep down even his father knows it.

sr had great reflexes, counters, and immense power. Jr has none of it

i reckon senior probably says more of this than we think, its just that jr doesn't listen at all

I kinda look at Groves much like Sergio Mora - can be effective at times, but I’m not waiting to see him fight again. Good job though giving Eubank a beating

Eubank can comeback and be a major force. But junior isn't as good as senior has claimed. Not as good as senior yet, although senior in past has claimed junior was better than him
