Esmeralda Moreno Pregnant, To Become Champ in Recess

By Miguel Rivera

Esmeralda "La Joya" Moreno (25-6, 9KOs), the junior flyweight champion of the World Boxing Council (WBC), will become a champion in recess. It has been confirmed that she is pregnant. Esmeralda was scheduled to defend her title in the coming weeks, but it has now been confirmed that she is expecting a baby and plans to stay away from the ring until 2014.

Esmeralda is the latest champion from Mexico to go on the shelf due to a pregnancy. Most recently superstars Ana Maria Torres and Jackie Nava removed themselves from action due to pregnancies.
