Swedish middleweight Shady Gamhour (11-0), who is promoted by Roy Jones Jr. Promotions, is having some bad luck in getting his fight for the NBA I/C title off the ground.
It was first scheduled for September 4 in Hattiesburg, MS, but the show was postponed. This weekend it was on again but now in Augusta, GA, but the opponent, Rashad Jones, came in according to Gamhour, 12-pounds too heavy and the fight was scrapped by the commission. Next up for Shady is a training camp in Russia.
In June of this year it was 60 years since Ingemar Johansson beat Floyd Patterson to win the undisputed heavyweight championship of the World. The belt Ingo won that night has now been restored and can be seen at the Sports Museum in Gothenburg (Sweden) along with other memorabilia from the champ´s career that still stands out in Swedish sports history.
"Salo Knockout Night" is on in Salo, Finland, November 30 with local super welterweight and former UN solider Jarkko Putkonen (16-6-2) on top along with comebacking super middleweight Niklas Rasanen (14-2-1). Rasanen is these days mainly known as WBC super featherweight champ Eva Wahlstrom´s husband but is looking to get back into after 18 months out.
Former EBU heavyweight champ Erkan Teper has signed a long term contract with EC Boxing in Hamburg. Teper lost a crossroads fight to Robert Heleniius last year but eased back into action this summer.
EC have in the last few months sent out their heavyweights around in Europe and to the US. The likes of Alexander Dimitrenko and Michael Wallisch are these days at journeyman level but Ali Eren Demirezen, Christian Hammer and also Teper can be regarded as main event fighters of decent class.
