Erislandy Lara: Demetrius Andrade is Going To Get His Wish Soon!

By Ryan Burton

WBA/IBO super welterweight champion Erislandy Lara (24-2-2) will return to the ring for the first time since January when he faces Terrell Gausha (20-0) in a Showtime televised main event on October 14th.

The action takes place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York and the tripleheader will be rounded out with two more super welterweight title bouts, WBC champion Jermell Charlo versus Erickson Lubin and IBF champion Jarrett Hurd against Austin Trout.

Lara has had trouble securing big fights since losing a split decision to Austin Trout in 2014.  WBA "regular" super welterweight Demetrius Andrade is the exception and is one of the only guy to call out the Cuban.

Andrade faces Alantez Fox (23-0-1) on October 21st in a HBO televised middleweight bout.  If Andrade and Lara both emerge victorious and Andrade wants to move back down to 154 pounds, Lara said that he has no problem obliging his request.

"I am very interested in this fight. It is in my sights. He is going to get his wish soon. He can talk to Al Haymon after my next fight and we can make it happen," Lara told

The 34-year-old Cuban lives and trains in Houston, Texas under the guidance of world class trainer Ronnie Shields. Even though he was busy in training camp, Lara helped his community in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. He said that after his fight concludes that he will try to get even more involved in the relief effort.

"For me it was an honor to help out. the people who need help and give back to the community. I just want Houston to know they will bounce back and once I get through this fight I want to get more involved because right now I am focused on the fight," Lara stated.

As for what the fans watching the fight can expect, he said that he plans on putting on a spectacular performance.

"I plan on showing another great fight and another title defense. I will give them the best of me and put on a show for the fans," said Lara.
Andrade made that statement you quoted BEFORE he fought Culcay,
You don't realize you're the one who put huge holes in your argument. First you acknowledged that Andrade will only fight Lara as the last resort. Don't you know that…
Well, yeah, after fighting Culcay, Andrade had no fight offers. Don't how you interpret last resort. There's nothing in it that says he's never going to fight Lara. He'll fight him if there's no other options. Which was exactly his…

Lara vs Andrade should have happened long time ago when Andrade was fighting at 154. I prefer Andrade vs Jacobs at 160
