Former champion Eric Morel began training for his next fight and according to his father and coach Cyril, his target is placed on the WBA bantamweight title that Koki Kameda won by of unanimous decision against Alexander Munoz on December 26.
"We'd like to fight in Japan for the title and win there. We want to plant a flag in Japan in the same way that Samuel Serrano did in the 80's when he became an idol there. We can do the same with Eric. And we started training and did 10 rounds. We are ready for whatever comes," Cyril said.
Morel, who is 8-0 in the bantamweight division and 43-2 with 21 KOs in his career, will take a 10-round fight his promoter Golden Boy Promotions will get him a fight for the world title.
"If we are given the opportunity now to go for the title, we'll going to Japan and throw the ten round fight to the side. And we'll knock Kameda out. Eric has his name, won the IBF super flyweight and WBO bantamweight. We are going to eventually go after the WBA super bantamweight title," Cyril said.
