C.J. Ross, the Nevada judge who incredibly scored last Saturday’s unified junior middleweight title fight between Floyd Mayweather and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez a 114-114 draw, has put herself on indefinite leave.

According to the Las Vegas Review Journal’s Steve Carp, Ross sent an email to Nevada Athletic Commission executive director Keith Kizer which read, in part, “I will be taking some time off boxing but will keep in touch.”

Ross had the only wayward scorecard in a fight that most media--as well as the other two judges, Dave Moretti (116-112) and Craig Metcalfe (117-111)--had Mayweather comfortably ahead.  This writer scored the bout 119-109 for Mayweather, boxing’s current pound-for-pound king.

“I thought it was a joke,” Mayweather told ESPN’s Bernardo Osuna after the fight, before taking a more measured tone at the postfight press conference.

Ross is no stranger to controversy; she was also one of the two judges who scored last summer’s WBO welterweight title fight between Manny Pacquiao and Timothy Bradley 115-113 for Bradley, despite the overwhelming number of media feeling Pacquiao had won by a large margin.
