Edgar Berlanga Aims For Statement Win on Crawford Card

Edgar Berlanga is ready to put on another explosive show as he readies himself an appearance at Madison Square Garden’s final marquee combat sports event of the year.

Berlanga features on a card which sees Terrence Crawford defend his world welterweight title, Richard Commey and Teofimo Lopez alongside Michael Conlan’s attempt at redemption against Olympic foe Vladimir Nikitin. The New Yorker, who stays close to his Puerto Rican roots, opened up about being on the all-action card put together by Top Rank.

Berlanga said, “I’m absolutely delighted to be on the December 14 show and I want to thank my whole team for making it happen. These are the shows that you dream of being a part of in boxing and I’m absolutely certain I am going to put on the performance of my career.

“I have been training with Andre Rozier and the whole Havoc Team as well as Dave Honig on the conditioning side and I’ve never felt this good in my whole career. Everything has gone to plan in training and I promise my supporters that I’ll put on the best show of my career to date.”

Berlanga trains out of the famed Havoc Camp headed up by Andre Rozier and the Brooklyn native weighed in on life around Rozier’s team and how that has contributed to his improvements ahead of December 14.

The big-hitting middleweight said, “Being around the likes of Richard Commey who defends his world title on the card In a fight I fully expect him to win, makes me a better fighter and a better person on a daily basis.

“I’ve sparred world-class fighters for this fight such as Sergiy Dereyvanchenko. Those are the types of spars that get you ready for anything in boxing. Sergiy has really helped me improve as has everyone else in the Havoc Team such as Lenny Wilson and Terrence Simpson and I feel that the culmination of these improvements will be another victory on December 14.

“People talk about my record of winning every fight in the first round but we are ready to go the distance against top class opposition. I am ready for the big tests and I want titles in 2020, so I know I need to look good at MSG and I plan on looking the best I’ve ever looked as a pro.”
