Eddie Gomez Doesn't Believe John Karl Sosa is On His Level

By Ryan Burton

Later tonight Eddie Gomez (18-1) and John Karl Sosa (13-1) will face each other in an Estrella TV televised main event.

At stake will be the IBF North American welterweight title and the opportunity to get bigger fights.

Gomez said that he had a great training camp and that he had top notch sparring. He doesn't believe that his 13 month ring absence will cause him to get out to a slow start.

"You know I got 19 fights and I would say that this is my 2nd best training camp of my career. I feel great and I am ready I rock and roll tomorrow.

"Honestly I don't see myself being rusty. It might show up a little but being that I had great sparring - I had tough sparring with Raymond Beltran, Julian Rodriguez, I sparred Shawn Porter one time. I sparred a guy who is fighting on my undercard. I sparred Felix Diaz who everybody is saying beat Lamont Peterson. I got some great rounds and I don't really see how ring rust would show up," Gomez told BoxingScene.com on Thursday.

As for his opponent - Sosa, who is from Puerto Rico - Gomez doesn't feel that he is on his level. Sosa was stopped in hos last fight by Alan Sanchez and hasn't faced the same caliber of opposition as Gomez.

The Bronx, New York native feels that the difference in experience and level of opposition will prove to be a key factor in the fight.

"On paper it looks like he's a good fighter but when it comes down to experience, I fought the better opposition, the better opponents.  My record speaks for itself.

"Yeah, I had a bump in the road, I lost to Francisco Santana who's a great fighter. I don't take nothing away from him. It was a bad night for me but you know I got a good record and I've faced good fighters. I don't really feel like this kid presents anything that can be of harm when it comes to me and him in the ring. I am ready for whatever he brings. Just tune in. I am ready to rock and roll," Gomez confidently stated.
