A potential rematch between WBC cruiserweight champion Grigory Drozd (39-1, 27 KOs) of Russia and former beltholder Krzysztof Wlodarczyk (49-3-1, 35 KOs) of Poland is not likely to take place until the month of May. The Pole's promoter Andrzej Wasilewski denied reports that his boxer was facing Drozd on March 21 in Moscow, when the champion is scheduled to make his first defense.
During December's WBC convention in Las Vegas, Wlodarczyk's handlers informed the sanctioning body that a rematch was going to be scheduled due to a rematch clause from the original bout agreement. The WBC approved the rematch. On September 27th of last year, Drozd dominated Wlodarczyk over twelve rounds to win the championship.
