2012 “Fighter of the Year” Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire is “good to go” in his rematch with Vic Darchinyan in Corpus Christi, Texas on Sunday morning Manila Time in a fight to be telecast by the giant broadcast network ABS-CBN over its pre-eminent Channel 2 as well as globally on The Filipino Channel.

Donaire spoke BoxingScene.com/Manila Standard as he and wife Rachel were on their way to the airport to pick up Nonito’s dad, Nonito “Dodong” Donaire Sr from the airport.

He said training had been “very good and I am mentally focused” for the fight  even as he bared no problems in making the featherweight limit and even though he didn’t work out today and ate a full meal he weighed in at 130 pounds that is just 4 pounds over the limit which he should have no problem shedding off before the official weigh-in.

Donaire said “I’m good to go and looking to fight a smart fight” even as he expects the southpaw Darchinyan, a known puncher, “to be aggressive.”

The plan calls for Donaire “to set him up” but should the rugged Australian from whom Donaire took the IBF and IBO flyweight titles with a spectacular 5th round knockout on July 7, 2007 wish to play it “down and rough, I’m ready.”

Donaire said his father had been good in training and had helped in “bringing back my great speed along with my power.”

Donaire, his wife Rachel and son Jarel are scheduled to arrive in Manila on November 13.
